How to Install Ropeway Solution?

There are different types of ropeway solutions that can be used for lifting and transporting people through hilly terrains. The common types are fixed grip chairlifts, gondola, and so on. It is a closed system which works in the principle of continuous movement. The extra energy required for ropeways is to overcome friction caused due to movement or uneven payloads, and not for moving the dead weight.

Before fixing the station and other components, the terrain should be well inspected. The geotechnical, the consistency and composition of the terrain should be inspected before finalizing the location.

Components of Ropeways

The ropeways usually need a drive station and a return station. The brakes, control panel and motor are required only in the station buildings.
A drive system that consists of a service brake, safety brake and gearbox should be installed in the station.
The rope used for transporting the passengers is connected using different components such as tower and roller batteries.
The towers should be strong enough to bear the weight of passengers and ski-lifts, and the height depends on the terrain and type of ski-lifts used.
The control panel for monitoring the installation, operation and safety of passengers is necessary in the station.
A grip system for secure and reliable transportation through the rope is very important.
Different ski-lifts such as T-Bars, Gondolas, Chairlifts, and so on for transporting the passengers are the most important components.

Stations are usually bolted onto concrete foundations or metal support. It should have a compatible design and offer transmission without releasing tension on the rope. The electrical motor should have power upto 45KW or 200KW depending upon the type of ski lifts used, and can be controlled by variable frequency drive. For smooth and safe transportation an electromechanical brake system is necessary. The tower height should be around 8m and line gauge should be around 3m. For a pleasant uphill ride, the speed of the ropeway should be upto 3.5 m/s. The electrically controlled hydraulic tensioning system and tensioning drive station can be ideal for surface lifts like T-bars, J-bars, and so on.

After fitting the electric motor, brakes, gearbox and hydraulic cylinder, the rope assembly should be fitted. It is one of the most difficult and important tasks, which is recommended to be performed by specialized professionals. All the electrical and mechanical connections will be done after assembling and fixing the components. Trial runs and inspections and approvals from authorities should be done prior to full fledged operation.
